Paris: The Thing That Everyone's Seen
On the last night in Paris, I visit the Eiffel Tower, because no one can be cynical about the Eiffel Tower, even in February. I went up once, but not to the top. It was closed because of the wind. But I have never really needed to go up, to get the true bird’s eye. Once you have done it from the Tour Montparnasse or the Sacre Coeur, you don’t need to do it again, to see miniscule Paris. Or maybe I’m just leaving things, setting aside Paris experiences to have later. I never want to run out.

Poppy growing out of a stone wall in Menebres, France. I was there for one hour. I don’t think it would have been nicer — or this poppy any prettier — if I’d been there for two.

Such a humid day. I took this photo between thunderstorms. The sky just gushed water. This is Marseilles’s old port, which was founded by the Greeks in 600 BC. The church on the hill with the gold spire is the basilica of the Notre Dame de la Garde.
I had my first macaron ever at Laduree. And there was no going back.
Fact: Sofia Coppola based the palate of Marie Antoinette on the colors at Laduree.
I shall see you in the future, I promise.
